 note = {Relative clause construction has been generally studied in terms of the syntactic structure, and few researches on the function of noun-modifying clauses have been made. This paper deals with the usage of noun-modifying clauses in discouse. To summarize, the noun-modifying clauses are classified into three types in terms of "given information" and "new information, " and each type has its own function in discourse. As a result, the usage of noun-modifying clauses is closely related to the place where they appear in discourse.},
