This song was printed on Oct. 15. 1862 as the third song of "Five songs for a woman's voice with piano-accompaniment set in music by Richard Wagner." In this edition, "In the greenhouse" has a subtitle : the study for "Tristan and Isolde." This article outlines different manuscripts of "In the greenhouse" and discusses on the close relationship between "In the greenhouse" and "Tristan and Isolde" by analization. These two works both have dramatical features. They both express 'suffering, ' 'desire, ' 'day, ' 'night' and 'death' by using the same leading-motives and the same materials.
