Evidence from one of these languages, Motu, indicates an original subject-verb-object word order; Motu verbs have subject and direct object affixes which are in a subject-verb-object order and both the order of adjectives and adverbs and the position of nominal direct objects are inconsistent with a verb-final typology. The contemporary subject-object-verb word order in Motu and by implication the other Papuan Tip languages is probably the result of contact with neighbouring non-Oceanic languages which have a subject-object-verb word order and the original word order in Proto Oceanic was subject-verb-object.}, pages = {131--140}, title = {原オセアニア語の語順 SVO の根拠}, volume = {29}, year = {1995}, yomi = {〓} }
