Tok Pisin is used in an increasing number of domains, sometimes to the exclusion of Nalik. Many children now grow up with Tok Pisin (New Guinea Pidgin English) as their dominant language. As a result, the lexicon and grammatical structure of Nalik are changing to resemble motre closely these of Tok Pisin. For each speaker this change is gradual, causing considerable linguistic variation among different groups of speakers.
