In particular, many Sogdians who migrated and settled there, were more important than any other people. After Pei-wei was split in half in 534 A.D, the direct trade between Tung-wei (東魏), Pei-ch'I (北斉) and Central Asian countries were interrupted by His-wei (西魏) and Pei-chou (北周). Therefore, Tung-wei and Pei-ch'I began the direct trade with them on a new route via Jou-jan (柔然), by the mediation of T'u-yu-hun (吐谷渾) in the Tung-wei Period, and by that of T'u-chueh (突厥) in the Pei-ch'I Period. Especially during the reign of Hou-chu (後主 : 565～576), the activities of Sogdians became the most remarkable in various worlds, because he was a famous His-yu (西域)-maniac.
